Further details for next America's Cup agreed

7:32 am on 13 November 2008

A meeting between the America's Cup defender Alinghi and 10 challengers has agreed new rules for the next event, but Russell Coutts and the BMW Oracle syndicate remain on the outer and are continuing their legal challenge.

Alinghi's hoping to end a bitter legal battle over its initial plans for the next cup regatta, by creating a new set of rules.

Most of the challengers have agreed to more independent appointees to the regatta's Arbitration Panel and independent race officials, along with a timetable for build-up regattas starting next year.

The snag remains that BMW Oracle has not been allowed to attend the meetings because it wants Alinghi's regatta ruled invalid in a New York Court, which would force the pair to race for the Cup in multihulls.
