Black Caps denied chance to run the rule over opposition

The New Zealand cricketers have been denied the chance to test their mettle against several of the players they're likely to come up against in the first Test against Australia, with New South Wales resting their internationals.

The Black Caps' tour of Australia has begun with a four-day match against New South Wales in Sydney, their only build-up match ahead of the two Tests - the first of which is in Brisbane.

Vettori says given they haven't played against the likes of new spinner Jason Krejza, who took 12 wickets in the final Test against India, it would have been a good opportunity to see him in action.

Meanwhile the New Zealand cricketers say they are fully focused on the four-day NSW match - and not the prospect of taking on a wounded Australian team next week.

The Australian media is making the most of an anticipated Australian fightback against the Black Caps following their side's 2-0 series defeat in India.

However pace bowler Chris Martin says the New South Wales match is very important for them to acclimatise to the local conditions and get them up to speed after playing in Bangladesh.

Martin returns to the side after missing the Bangladesh tour through injury.
