Chelsea fall to Burnley on penalties, Spurs win

The lower-league English football side Burnley have knocked Chelsea out of the League Cup in London.

The visitors, currently fifth in the Championship, came from behind at the Premier League leaders to force extra time at 1-1 -- then won 5-4 on penalties.

Chelsea - who won the competition in 2006-2007 and were runners-up last season to Tottenham Hotspur - appeared to be on the way to a routine victory after the fit-again Didier Drogba gave them the lead on27 minutes.

But Burnley battled back after the break and took the match into extra time when Ade Akinbiyi levelled with around 20 minutes remaining.

Meanwhile the amazing run for new Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp continues.

The League Cup holders reached the quarter-finals with a 4-2 defeat of a below-strength Liverpool at White Hart Lane with two goals apiece for Roman Pavlyuchenko and Fraizer Campbell.

It's Spurs' second win in two weeks over the Reds - and in fact the only two losses for Liverpool all season.

And New Zealand captain Ryan Nelson's Blackburn Rovers also won 2-1 at Sunderland.
