An unbeaten 88 from Corey Anderson wasn't enough to stave off defeat for defending champions Canterbury in their opening State Championship cricket match against Auckland Aces at Rangiora.
Anderson and Hamish Bennett resumed with Canterbury on 280 for nine needing 405 to win.
Anderson took to the Auckland bowling attack to move from 39 to 88 before Bennett fell for one, giving Auckland a 78-run win.
