The New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder has been placed in quarantine and placed on an intravenous drip as his first cricket Test preparations are thrown into chaos by a mystery bug.

Ryder's remained at the team's Sydney hotel as his teammates took on New South Wales on the second day of their tour opener.

New Zealand manager Lindsay Crocker says Ryder hasn't kept down any food for nearly two days, after waking up ill yesterday and vomiting before and after innings yesterday.

Other players have also reporterd upset stomachs today, although not enough to sideline them.

Crocker says Ryder's illness hasn't yet placed him in doubt for Thursday's first test in Brisbane but there would be major worries if the symptoms continue through the weekend.
