Gaunt to drive for TKR

Twenty-three year old Daniel Gaunt from Auckland will make his Australian V8 Supercar debut in Tasmania next weekend.

The two-time Lady Wigram Trophy winner will pilot the Team Kiwi Racing All Black Ford in the penultimate round of the championship at Symmons Plains near Launceston.

Team Kiwi Racing owner David John says the team continues to look to blood young New Zealand drivers in the major motor race series on either side of the Tasman and had ear-marked Gaunt as an outstanding prospect.

As well as wins in the Lady Wigram Trophy, Gaunt has won the New Zealand Toyota Racing Series twice, the New Zealand Grand Prix and the 2003 Australian Drivers Championship in Formula Holden.

He is currently competing in the New Zealand GT3 Porsche series where he finished second last season to top rating Craig Baird, who drove for TKR five years ago.

Mr John says the drive was not a test for Gaunt but clearly he will be a potential candidate for the fulltime seat will in the TKR All Black machine in 2009.
