Steve Bucknor to miss Black Caps tests

6:47 am on 18 November 2008

The controversial West Indies umpire Steve Bucknor won't officiate in the two test series between New Zealand and Australia starting in Brisbane on Thursday.

The International Cricket Council cites travel difficulties and says the South African Rudi Koertzen

will replace Bucknor.

The second umpire is another West Indian Billy Doctrove and the match referee is England's Chris Broad

Last year India successfully demanded that Bucknor not stand in the final two Tests of the troubled four-match series in Australia.

The Jamaican angered the Indians after he gave Andrew Symonds not out in the Sydney Test when it was clear he had been caught.

And Indian officials were furious after their spin bowler Harbhajan Singh was handed a three-Test ban for racially abusing Symonds.

Harbhajan's ban was later changed to a fine for a downgraded charge of using abusive and insulting language.
