Rain could delay start of first test in Brisbane

After a week of mainly wet weather, more rain is forecast for Brisbane today, and the start of the first Australia-New Zealand cricket test could be delayed.

The captain who wins the toss will almost certainly choose to bowl first on a juicy Gabba wicket.

The teams won't be known until just before the start of play, but Australia have confirmed the return of the all rounder Andrew Symonds after he was stood down for disciplinary reasons, and the Black Caps captain Daniel Vettori made the surprise suggestion yesterday that the Wellington all rounder Grant Elliot would be in the playing eleven.
