Another disgraced US sprinter has tarnished the legacy of the Sydney Olympics, with the former 100m world record holder Tim Montgomery admitting he took testosterone and human growth hormone before the 2000 Games.

In an interview for US television Montgomery said he did not deserve the gold medal he won in the 4x100m relay in Sydney.

Montgomery never tested positive for drugs, but he was banned for two years and his world record in the 100m was erased after he was linked to the BALCO doping investigation.

He retired after the ban was imposed in 2005, and he's currently in prison after being convicted of cheque fraud and heroin trafficking.

His former girlfriend Marion Jones was stripped of her three gold and two bronze medals from the Sydney Games after admitting last year to steroid use.
