Young Ferns hopes of creating New Zealand football history dashed

The hopes the under-20 women's side had of creating football history by becoming the first New Zealand side to qualify for world cup quarterfinal have been dashed.

New Zealand drew one all with England at the world cup in Chile, but needed to win to advance to the top eight.

Sarah McLaughlin put New Zealand into the lead midway through the first half but England grabbed the equaliser four minutes into injury time - with just a minute to go.

But New Zealand was reduced to ten players in the second half with captain Katie Hoyle sent off having received two yellow cards.

Coach John Herdman says he can't begin to explain the feeling within the camp.
