Top field for Round Taupo Cycle race

10:26 am on 28 November 2008

Leader Jeremy Yates will have to overcome a strong field if he is to continue his winning run in the fifth round of the BikeNZ National Points Series at the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge tomorrow.

Yates is chasing his fourth straight win in the series after victories in the Taupo-Napier, Around Taranaki and K2 races to go with his national club title and King of the Mountains honours in the Tour of Southland.

He will need to be at his best to hold off a quality line-up in the 160km race chasing the winner's purse of 5 thousand dollars.

The 100-strong field includes Beijing Olympic medallists Sam Bewley and Wesley Gough, national squad member Peter Latham and world omnium champion Hayden Godfrey (Christchurch).

Olympian Catherine Cheatley is one of the favourites for the women's race.
