Bayonne deny offering lucrative deal to Giteau

The French rugby club Bayonne has denied offering the Australia first-five Matt Giteau a four-year contract worth nearly $12 million.

Sydney's Daily Telegraph said Giteau had met representatives from the French club. to discuss acontract would make him the highest paid player in world rugb.

But the club's chairman Francis Salagoity says he's had nop contact with Giteau or his agent.

And he says they couldn't afford him anyway.

Giteau's reportedly interested in playing on France on the same special leave basis as the All Black Dan Carter, who's going to Perpignan.
