The injured New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell still hopes to tee it up in next week's Australian Open after a a shoulder injury forced him to miss the Australian Masters.

A scan has subsequently cleared the 2005 US Open champion of serious damage and he hopes to recover through rest and treatment.

The Open starts at Royal Sydney, just a 10 minute drive from his home, on Thurday week.

The injury, which has troubled Campbell since July, forced him to withdraw after the first round of the Hong Kong Open last month.
