The Palmerston North golfer Tim Wilkinson is the clubhouse leader having shot an opening round six under par 66 at the Australian PGA Championship at Coolum.
Australian Peter Wilson is also at six under through 14 holes while another New Zealander Richard Lee is a shot back in a share of third after his opening round.
Wilkinson says he was conscious of getting off to a good start when the wind wasn't blowing as much and described his opening round as solid.
In all there are 16 New Zealanders competing in the tournament.
