Wellington go top of State Championship

5:08 am on 5 December 2008

An unbeaten 105 from captain James Marshall couldn't rescue Northern Districts from defeat in their State Championship match against Wellington at the Basin Reserve.

Wellington won by an innings and 12 runs which puts them top of the table with 17 points from three matches, one ahead of Central, who begin their third-round match against Otago in Napier today.

In contrast, the Knights have yet to record a point and share the bottom of the table with Canterbury.

Marshall batted through most of his side's innings to complete his 10th first class century.
