Campbell out of Australian Open with injury

The New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell has withdrawn from next week's Australian Open at Royal Sydney due to injury.

The 2005 US Open Champion withdrew from last month's Hong Kong Open with a shoulder injury and missed last week's Australian masters.

Campbell says the scans he had last week confirmed a small tear to the rotator cuff.

He says while it feels better than it did two weeks ago, rather than risk aggravating the injury, the best thing for him to do is to rest and continue the physio treatment so he can be sure of being 100 per cent for the start of the 2009 season.

The Australian Open will be held at Royal Sydney from December 11th to 14th where Craig Parry will return to defend his crown.
