The Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has lost out to Scottish driver Allan McNish in a vote by readers of Britain's Autosport magazine for the British Competition Driver of the year award.

The double Le Mans 24-hours winner McNish says winning the award is a big achievement,

considering what Hamilton has achieved this year.

McLaren's Hamilton, who became Formula One's youngest champion in November at 23, was named international racing driver of the year for the second time in a row.

Toro Rosso's German Sebastian Vettel was rookie of the year.
