New Zealand's Olympic swimmers set to make a splash

New Zealand's Olympic swimmers will take their first plunge back into competition at the National Summer Championships starting in Christchurch on Thursday.

The event will be a chance for the Beijing Olympians to gauge their progress before next year's major goal of qualification for the world champs in Rome, a key stepping stone to the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The three-day meet is the first for former national coach Jan Cameron in her new role as General Manager, Performance and Pathways.

The Championships run from Thursday to Saturday at the QE2 leisure centre.
