ARL won't change rules to allow Mal to coach both State and Country

The Australian Rugby League says it will not change its guidelines to accommodate Queensland coach Mal Meninga, who has been widely tipped to fill the national coaching role following Ricky Stuart's resignation.

Currently the ARL's policy is to appoint a national coach without any state ties.

Meninga is locked in as the coach of the Queensland State of Origin team for at least the next three years and the former Australian captain has reportedly told Queensland officials he wants to remain as Maroons coach.

The ARL board met in Brisbane yesterday to discuss the Kangaroos vacancy and chief executive Geoff Carr says it was agreed to keep the current guidelines.
