Australia to bid for Fifa World Cup 2018

The Australian federal government will spend 50 million dollars on a bid to take the Fifa World Cup to Australia in 2018.

The commonwealth says the money will be spent over three years in an effort to take the world's biggest sporting event down-under.

The FFA will formally lodge the Australian bid by the end of 2010 with a decision regarding who will host the 2018 world cup expected to be made in 2011.

New Zealand Football will likely try and piggy-back on the hosts if they gain the tournament.
