Tribute to Kerryn McCann

6:06 am on 12 December 2008

Thousands of people have paid tribute to late Australian marathon runner Kerryn McCann at the Zatopek athletics meet in Melbourne last night.

Athletes, officials and a crowd of about 3,000 spectators stopped for a minute's silence before the 10,000 metres race.

The dual Commonwealth Games gold medallist died from cancer at her home near Wollongong, aged 41.

Meanwhile at the meeting the New Zealander Monique Williams finished a close second to Australian Olympian Tamsyn Lewis in the 400 metres.
