Don Bradman's 1948 baggy green cap goes under the hammer in Melbourne tonight with expectations it could fetch more than 700 thousand dollars.

Auctioneer Charles Leski says although there has been worldwide interest in the auction, there have been no offers yet for the cap which the Don wore when he captained the 1948 Invincibles Ashes tour of England.

Sir Donald gave the cap to the son of English friend Richard Robins whom he saw playing backyard cricket with a makeshift cap.

Australia went undefeated on the 1948 tour and Bradman scored two centuries, and a duck in his final innings, leaving him with a Test average of 99.94 - just four runs short of an average of 100.
