Hartley gets F1 laps under his belt

The New Zealand motor racing driver Brendan Hartley says he's lived a dream to get control of a Formula One car.

19-year-old Hartley, who drives F3 in Britain for the Red Bull team, tested their F1 car on the first day of a session at Jerez in Spain.

Hartley was third fastest with BMW Sauber and Williams also testing at the circuit.

He says it was a great day, experiencing G-forces of 4.4 and reaching speeds of 370kms per hour.

Hartley completed 400kms which is enough to make him eligible for an FIA Superlicence, although he says he's unlikely to get much more F1 action as testing will be severely restricted next season.

Hartley now returns to testing for his F3 team.
