Plenty of concerns for NZ cricketers

6:00 am on 17 December 2008

A number of the New Zealand cricket squad will train in Napier today unsure if they'll be playing in the second test against the West Indies.

All rounder Jacob Oram has been ruled out, while batsman Ross Taylor and bowler-batsman James Franklin remain in doubt because of injuries.

Oram is still recovering from a calf strain that forced him out of the first test and the Black Caps hope to have him available for the first Twenty20 international at Eden Park on Boxing Day.

Taylor dislocated his right ring finger dropping a catch at Dunedin... he'll practise today and his availability will be dictated by how comfortable he is when batting.

Franklin took a blow in the chest from West Indian speedster Fidel Edwards on his comeback to test cricket.... how well he comes through the next two days' practice will decide whether he lines up on Friday.

Peter Fulton is in Napier as cover for Taylor, and Chris Martin for Franklin.
