The International Tennis Federation has named world No.1s Rafael Nadal of Spain and Jelena Jankovic of Serbia World Champions for 2008.

22-year-old Nadal, who won the French Open, Wimbledon and Olympic gold in Beijing to dethrone Roger Federer, is the first Spanish man to be named men's World Champion.

And Jankovic becomes Serbia's first tennis World Champion in singles after securing the year-end No. 1 ranking in a standout year, capturing four titles and winning more matches on the tour than any other player.
