Hager wants to make changes

Hockey New Zealand's chief executive Ramesh Patel says there is little doubt that there will be changes to the women's programme under the guidance of their new coach Mark Hager.

The Australia legend has been confirmed as coach of the Black Sticks women after what Patel described as some last minute negotiations following the loss of Sparc funding for the team.

Hager, who scored 179 goals in 230 matches for Australia, and more recently was assistant coach of the Olympic bronze medal winning Australian Men's team in Beijing, already has ideas on how he wants to run things and Patel is fine with that..

Hager's first competition will be in the second half of next year as the Black Sticks women compete in the Oceania Cup and the Champions Challenge tournaments.
