The British golfer Lee Westwood is two shots clear heading into the final round of the South African Open.

The former European number one hit four birdies in a flawless four-under-par 68 to finish 14-under at Pearl Valley Golf Estates on the Western Cape.

Fellow Briton Gareth Maybin (69) and Michael Lorenzo-Vera of France (72), the overnight leader, share second place.

Ernie Els's hopes of a fifth South African Open title nosedived when he slumped to a 77 to be nine shots off the pace.
