Haddin comes to Lee's defence

7:04 pm on 22 December 2008

The Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin has come to the defence of fast bowler Brett Lee insisting he's still hitting the gloves as hard as ever - but just not as often.

Lee's been widely criticised after taking just one wicket in Australia's six-wicket loss to South Africa in the first Test in Perth.

But Haddin's defending his New South Wales teamate, saying Lee's still bowling just as fast but just choosing the times to do it.

Despite the support Australian captain Ricky Ponting has labelled several of his side as passengers for the match admitting there was a lack of punch in the bowling department from Peter Siddle and Brett Lee.
