The Australian opening cricket batsman Matthew Hayden believes he can still contribute to the national Test side but says he will reassess his future at the end of the South Africa series.

Hayden has quashed any retirement speculation ahead of the Boxing Day Test.

The 37-year-old has scored only 282 runs at 23.5 in his past 13 innings, including just 12 and four in the first Test loss to the Proteas in Perth.

He has however been the victim of some poor umpiring decisions, including when he was incorrectly given out in the second innings at the WACA Ground.

The Queenslander will look to return to form at the MCG where he has a phenomenal record, averaging 76.5 and racking up six centuries in his last seven Tests.
