Lance Cairns has been appointed as coach of the Northern Districts under 19 cricket team for the national tournament at Lincoln University in January.

Cairns replaces Grant Bradburn, who has taken over as coach of the Knights following the departure of Andy Moles to the national side.

Cairns, now living in Gisborne, played 43 tests for New Zealand, taking 130 wickets.

He also played 78 ODIs, earning a reputation as a big hitting tailender as well as picking up 89 wickets with his medium pace bowling.

The under 19 tournament takes place from the 2nd to the 11th of January at Lincoln, outside Christchurch.
