Chinese basketball clubs fined

6:14 am on 27 December 2008

China's embattled basketball administration, already rocked by scandals involving brawling players and rampant age-faking, has fined two clubs for failing to prevent unruly crowd behaviour.

The Chinese Basketball Association fined Jilin and Jiangsu clubs about 12 thousand dollars each after their fans swore at players and threw water bottles and other missiles on court.

The club's venue managers were also fined.

China often holds its professional clubs liable for the behaviour of their fans and periodically launches spectator "education" campaigns with mixed results.
