Australia need another hundred runs today

10:17 am on 27 December 2008

Australia will be hoping to squeeze an extra hundred runs from their tail when play resumes on day two of the second cricket Test against South Africa in Melbourne.

Backed into a corner and trailing 1-nil in the series against South Africa, Australia captain Ricky Ponting showed his fighting spirit with a defiant 101 yesterday in his side's 280 for 6.

Michael Clarke will resume on 36 with Brett Lee on zero.

Ponting says the first hour will tell them how good yesterday was..... they need around 350 to 400.
