Broom promoted to one day cricket squad

The Otago batsman Neil Broom has been added to the New Zealand cricket squad for the first two onedayers against the West Indies.

Broom, who has averaged more than 40 for Otago in the limited overs game in recent years, replaces Scott Styris who broke his thumb in Friday's Twenty20 match.

Bowler Grant Elliott and batsman Jamie How are recalled, replacing James Franklin and Ewen Thompson from the Twenty20 squad.

Head of the selection panel, Glenn Turner, says Broom performed well with the bat in Australia and India with the Emerging Players and New Zealand A sides, and he's been scoring a lot of runs in the State Championship this summer.

Turner says Elliott gives them options with both bat and ball.

The first ODI is at Queenstown on Wednesday.
