3 NZ swimmers make finals at Pan Pacs

Three New Zealand swimmers have made finals on day two of the Pan-Pacific Championships in California.

Hayley Palmer in the 100 freestyle, Natalle Wiegersma in the 400 medley and Emily Thomas in the 50 backstroke all reach finals.

Thomas was the only swimmer to record a top eight time, while the others make finals because only 2 swimmers from each country are permitted in each final.

That hurt the American great Michael Phelps, who despite recording the 4th fastest time in the men's 400 medley, missed out on a place in the decider as he was beaten by 2 team-mates.
