The Kenyan middle distance athlete David Rudisha has set a new mark for the 800 metres, breaking the 13 year old record with a time of one minute 41.09 seconds at an international meeting in Berlin.
In his first real attempt to break the world record, Rudisha took just two hundredths of a second off Wilson Kipketer's time set in 1997 in Cologne.
He said the world record makes up for his surprise semi-final exit at last year's world championships in the same stadium.
