Black Caps batting crumbles against India

6:50 am on 26 August 2010

The New Zealand cricketers didn't even come close to making the one day Tri series in Sri Lanka this morning, comprehensively beaten by 105 runs in their virtual semi-final against India in Dambulla.

India won the toss and were 66 for 4 before Virender Sehwag stood tall as wickets continued to fall around him, and he ended up with 110 off 93 balls in their total of 223 all out.

The Black Caps run chase started disastrously with Martin Gutpil dismissed for a duck with only the second ball of the innings, triggering a succession of cheap dismissals which had them 53 for 8.

Pace bowler Kyle Mills then showed the specialists how to bat with 52 off 35 balls to at least bring up three figures, and they were all out for 118.

So it's India-Sri Lanka in the final on Saturday night.
