The Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki will take the top seed and the confidence of a third straight WTA New Haven title into the US Open this week.

Wozniacki beat Russian eighth seed Nadia Petrova in 3 sets to claim a third consecutive crown in the Pilot Pen hard court tournament, the last event before the start of the US Open on Tuesday.

It was the second title of the week for 20-year-old Wozniacki, who earned a title in the rain-disrupted event in Montreal last Tuesday.

The world number 2 collected 140 thousand dollars for the New Haven victory.

She is the top seed for the US Open.

In the men's final, Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky won his second tournament of the season, defeating Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in 3 sets.
