The New Zealand cyclist Cath Cheatley has won the American national road series championship, after finishing second in the final race of the season in New York.

Cheatley finished second in the criterium behind Canadian Samantha Schneider, with fellow New Zealander Joanne Kiesanowski third and another Commonwealth Games-bound cyclist Kaytee Boyd seventh.

Cheatley's likely to lead the New Zealand team at next month's world road champs in Australia before heading to the Commonwealth Games in October.
