Petulant Roddick ousted in New York

Former champion Andy Roddick has made an early exit from the U.S. Tennis Open eliminated in the second round by the unseeded Serb Janko Tipsarevic 3-6 7-5 6-3 7-6.

Roddick, who went on a petulant rant in the third set unsatisfied with a lineswoman's explanation of a foot fault , entered the match with 36-9 Open record compared with the Serb's two wins in eight matches.

Tipsarevic, 26, will play the Frenchman Gael Monfils, who beat Russia's Igor Andreev.

The women's champion Kim Clijsters easily beat the Australian teenager Sally Peers in straight sets to advance to tthe third round, the 27-year-old Belgian extending her US Open match-winning streak to 16.

Another two time champion, the third seed Venus Williams had a comfortable 7-6 6-3 victory over Canada's Rebecca Marino,,.

And Britain's Andy Murray sent an ominous warning to Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal as he crushed Slovakia's Lukas Lacko in straight sets.
