Swiss tennis star Roger Federer's beaten Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu in straight sets to book a fourth round US Open match with Spanish 22nd seed Juan Carlos Ferrero, who also progressed in straight sets against Austrian 13th seed Jurgen Melzer.
Federer, the five-time US Open champion who owns a record 16 grand slam titles, improved to 5-0 against Mathieu with the 6-4 6-3 6-3 win.
Seeking his 64th career title, Federerer had won 40 US Open matches in a row before losing last year's final to the now-injured Juan Martin Del Potro.
The world number two Federer remains on course for a quarter-final against Sweden's Robin Soderling.
