Willis returns to action this weekend

The New Zealand middle distance runner Nick Willis returns to the track this weekend after an injury-plagued year which has kept him away from most of the European season.

The Olympic 1500 metre silver medalist starts his final preparation for the defense of his Commonwealth Games title with a race over 800 metres in Italy and will follow that up with a race over 1500 metres next week.

Willis had 10 weeks off after a knee operation at the end of March and says he's only really been training properly for the past 2 months.

He says the 800 metre race will be a shock to the system, however he says the 1500 race will give him a better idea of how he is placed.

While he's missed the majority of the season, he says at least he'll be fresh heading to Delhi, while many of his competitors will be trying to hold their form after a long season.

The Commonwealth Games start on October 3rd.
