Wozniacki vs Sharapova in New York

Former champion Maria Sharapova was ruthless as she whitewashed American wildcard Beatrice Capra 6-0 6-to set up a mouthwatering US tennis Open fourth round clash with the top seed, Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki.

Wozniacki booked her spot by thrashing Taiwan's Chan Yung-Jan 6-1 6-0.

Estonia's Kaia Kanepi upset fourth seeded Serb Jelena Jankovic 6-2 7-6 while 15th-seeded Belgian Yanina Wickmayer took three sets and two tiebreakers to get past Switzerland's Patty Schnyder, 7-6 3-6 7-6.

Sweden's men's fifth seed Robin Soderling's also through to the fourth round after beating the Netherlands' Thiemo de Bakker with another straight sets victory.

Frenchman Gael Monfils overcame his Serbian opponent Janko Tipsarevic in four sets to book his spot against compatriot Richard Gasquet in the fourth round, while Marty Fish remains the only American man in action after being taken to five sets by another Frenchman, Arnaud Clement.
