England win first Twenty20 against Pakistan

6:50 am on 6 September 2010

The World Twenty20 cricket champions England celebrated their first international since winning the World Cup in Barbados this year with a five-wicket win over controversy-hit Pakistan in the first of two games in Cardiff.

Chasing only 127, England were 62 for five at the halfway stage but Eoin Morgan and Michael Yardy saw them through to victory with 17 balls to spare.

The Cardiff stadium was only three-quarters full after a dreadful week for Pakistan with further newspaper allegations of corruption in their camp emerging overnight.

The tourists held an emergency meeting after new allegations by the News of the World that a fourth player was being investigated, leading to speculation that they could pull out of the series.
