Australia's mens basketball world championship campaign has come to a devastating end, thrashed by Slovenia 87-58 in their second-round match in Istanbul.

The Boomers young side had hopes of a first quarter-final berth in a major tournament since the Sydney Olympics, but they were completely outplayed from the start with Slovenia scoring the opening 12 points to kick off a commanding display.

Slovenia's quarter-final opponent will be either France or Turkey.

The Tall Blacks will be playing for a place in the quarter-finals when they meet Russia early tomorrow morning.
