Gael Monfils has become the first Frenchman in 10 years to qualify for the quarter-finals at the US Tennis Open.
Monfils, the 17th seed, made the last eight with a straight sets win over his unseeded countryman Richard Gasquet 6-4 7-5 7-5, and he'll meet either the third seed Novak Djokavic or the 19th seeded American Mardy Fish for a place in the semi-finals.
