Russia's Vera Zvonareva upset Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki 6-4 6-3 to charge into her first U.S. Open tennis final.

The seventh seed Zvonareva played superbly in the gusting winds at Arthur Ashe Stadium to outplay the number one seed and advance to her second grand slam final after finishing runner-up to Serena Williams at Wimbledon.

Zvonareva, yet to drop a set in the tournament, will play either Belgium's Kim Clijsters or Venus Williams of the United States in Sunday's final at Flushing Meadows.

Wozniacki made the U.S. Open final last year, losing to Clijsters, and was in great form heading into the match but was unable to produce her best in the conditions and slumped to a surprisingly one-sided defeat in 85 minutes.
