Hayden Roulsten pulls out of Spanish Tour

The New Zealand cyclist, Hayden Roulston, has pulled out of stage 13 of the Vuelta a Espana, after aggravating a previous knee injury.

Roulston says his knee, which required 18 stitches following a fall in late August, had become sore and swollen.

The double Olympic medallist says he thought it would be best to pull out of the season's last Grand Tour, and just focus on his fitness for the World Championships and the Commonwealth Games next month.

Roulston plans to stay on in Spain for treatment and recovery, before returning home to New Zealand towards the end of the month.

His team mate Mark Cavendish had his second straight stage win in the Spanish Tour overnight.
