Tigers hoping for Dragons victory after losing to Roosters

The Wests Tigers need minor premiers St George Illawarra to beat Manly to keep their season alive after a double dose of NRL rugby league qualifying finals upsets on Saturday night.

The Tigers, who finished the regular season in third spot, lost 19-15 to the Roosters in a 100 minute golden-point thriller at the Sydney Football Stadium before Penrith's comeback fell just short as they went down 24-22 to Canberra at CUA Stadium.

The results signalled the end of the road for the Warriors, who paid the ultimate price for their 28-16 loss to Gold Coast on Friday night.

Penrith will live to fight another day thanks to their top two finish, but the Tigers need the Dragons to win or face becoming the first third-placed side to bow out in the first week of the finals.

Should the Dragons beat an under-strength Manly then they will join Gold Coast in moving straight through to the preliminary final in week three of the finals.
