Riccarton all clear to race this weekend

6:06 am on 15 September 2010

Engineers have given the "all clear" for the Grandstands at Riccarton Park Racecourse after the earthquake which rocked Canterbury.

This follows earlier inspections which have confirmed that the various tracks, training and the course proper, were undamaged.

The various stable complexes and function buildings have also been cleared for normal use.

The Racecourse property did suffer some superficial damage including water damage to the Grand National (Public) Grandstand and at least 130 broken windows in various buildings. Crockery, glassware and some stock were also broken however this will have no impact on the Club's ability to race and everything will be ready for the next raceday which is scheduled for this Saturday.
