The Papua New Guinea rugby league coach, Adrian Lam, has quit in the lead up to next month's Four Nations tournament, which will be hosted by New Zealand and Australia.
The PNG Rugby League chairman, Gary Juffa, has confirmed Lam's resignation, though no official explanation has been given.
In May, Lam made an emotional plea to the PNGRL to stop bickering and politicking, otherwise he'd step down as the Kumuls' coach.
But PNG's Post Courier newspaper has reported that Lam, who's a coach at the St George Illawarra Dragons, has stepped down to focus on supporting his NRL team's finals' bid.
Juffa says despite the resignation, the Kumuls are on track to be a competitive force in the Four Nations competition, which also involves New Zealand, Australia and Great Britain.
He says a new coach will be named shortly.
The PNGRL are expected to make an official statement this afternoon.
